End of Year Rewind, Top 5 Projects, & Some Giveaways!

Those last few weeks of school are always such a whirlwind!
Here's a little rewind of some of the things we did in my
classroom during those last weeks of school....

We talked a lot about the goals we set at the beginning
of the year and reflected on our  accomplishments!
As we looked back over the year,
my students chose something they were particularly proud of
that they had accomplished during the year. They made
superhero booklets of themselves and inside wrote about what
they had accomplished, how they developed their "superpower"
and why they were so proud of it.

***This craft can be used two ways! I've included pages for both
the beginning of the year goal setting as well as end of year reflection.

One of my amazing parent helpers put together some
book and these cute bookmarks to remind them to read
over the summer!

I also gave them these little treats bags.

On our last day I gave out student awards.
I've never done end of year awards before
but I definitely will from now on!  It meant so
much to each child when they received
their award and the rest of the class clapped
and cheered!

  7. Hi! I LOVE the idea of weekly letters. Do you give them reminders of what they learned or is it 100% them writing on their own? Also, do you have a template up that you could share perhaps?! THANK YOU!

  8. Hi Kristin! Yes, at the beginning of the year learn how to write a letter, the parts and purpose etc. Each Friday we have a class discussion where I draw a bubble map on the board(or a web if your kiddos aren't familiar with thinking maps)and the kiddos brainstorm ideas while I record them. I also model how to transfer their ideas into the format of a letter. They then write their own letters including whatever was important to them during the week. I also have them include at least one question to their parent. (These are usually hysterical btw!) I'm kind of trying to guide them to ask their parents about when they were in school, but I often get "Can I have a sleepover tonight?" or "How come you only gave me one cookie in my lunch?" Ha!

I don't have a template, although I'd really like to make some that all match! I use a book of thematic writing stationary I bought from Scholastic.

By the second semester they are brainstorming and writing on their own. Each kiddos has a file folder that they file the letters in after their parent has written them back. I teach them how to file their letters in order, then I save these until the end of the year and have a parent volunteer bind them with a card stock cover and back. These books are such treasures and my parents love them!

  11. I love your Friday letters! Such a great idea for keeping the parents in the loop of what is happening at school and continuous practice for the students with their letter writing. Makes me wish I was teaching 2nd grade again next year.
