Happy Friday, friends! It's been all things literacy and Dr. Seuss
during our Read Across America week. Here is some of the fun
we did in our classroom!
We spotted some great biographies and made these little "biography spots"!

We've been reviewing parts of speech and focusing on verbs. This week's
Scholastic Magazine was all about Dr. Seuss! Since he is no longer living,
the text was rich with past tense verbs!
After reading the article we located and highlighted past tense verbs.
Students wrote these along with the present tense on birthday candles.
We then added these to our great big Seussy Cupcake!

In our word work center we practiced making words with prefixes and suffixes.
We also alphabetized the titles of some of our favorite books.
Students chose 10 books, arranged them on the floor in alphabetical order by title,
then wrote the titles in ABC order on note pads.

This little writing activity is based on the series
"The Cat in the Hat Knows A Lot About That!"
Students wrote about something they know a lot about!
We had a TON of fun this week and our second graders even got to perform songs
from Seussical the Musical at our Family Literacy Night!
